Limerick Challenge Winners

Winner’s Circle

            A visitor fresh from Passaic
            thought "Beetlebung" sounded archaic.
            I said "It's a proper
            term for a stopper;
            dactylic instead of trochaic.

                                    By Richard Barbieri

A skinny young girl from Aquinnah
Was unwilling to finish her dinner
'Til she ate a large box
            Of the best Chilmark Chocs
And she stopped getting thinner and thinner

                                  By Gerald Hass

It happens so often it's scary
Whether we're on time or tarry
            We are shunted aside
            for our maritime ride
And we're always the last off the ferry.

                                    By Eileen Maley

There once was a gal from West Tiz
Who got into the book writing biz
            With glee she killed off
            Politician and toff
At murder this gal is a wiz.

                                    By Carolyn O’Daly

A tick from Farm Neck made a face
at a rump he prepared to embrace.
            "You'd think it ideal,
            such a plentiful meal -
but these golfers have terrible taste."

                                    By Beth Parker

Honorable Mention

The Canada goose population
Is causing a fowl situation
If their eggs aren’t addled
We're going to be saddled
with acres of bird defecation.

By Richard Barbieri

To her mom said the girl Michaela,
"I met a nice boy, he's a sailor.”
A Vineyard romance?  -
No, not a chance!
That kid's from Nantucket; a Whaler.

By David Dutton

There once was a woman from Tisb'ry
Whose verses made light of life's mis'ry
I don't man to carp
'cause her wit was quite sharp
In fact, it could be downright scissor-y

By Andrew Hindes

In April the blossoms unfold
Pale green and sun yellow so bold
The air is fresh laundered
The birdsong is squandered
But frankly, my dear, I'm still cold.

By Eileen Maley

Your winners all have a flair
for capturing something that's there.
Not knowing the Vineyard,
I would be hindered
from winning a prize at your Fair.

                              By Dick Margulis

If you've got a thing for Menemsha;
if quaint little villages tempt ya;
if you long to reside
by the briny sea side,
then I've got a burnt dock to rent  ya.

By Beth Parker

Our Parson confesses she's fond
of skating on Parsonage Pond.
"It's so easy to tell
I'm in heaven, not hell - "
There's no ice in the Devil's Beyond.

By Jonathan Revere
